Overview
Natural burials take place in preserved bushland areas at Healesville Cemetery and Lilydale Memorial Park. Our horticulture team maintains these natural habitats in perpetuity, so the native flora and fauna will flourish for generations to come.
Natural burial areas have specific requirements to ensure environmental benefits:
Coffins or caskets must be made from natural materials such as bamboo, wicker or untreated timber
A simple burial shroud can be used instead of a coffin or casket
No embalming or chemical preservation
Graves accommodate one interment only
Individual graves are not marked with headstones or plaques
A communal memorial area allows families to remember their loved one.
