Cremation is a popular option, and after the ceremony you and your family will need to decide what to do with the ashes. This is an important and personal decision. We recommend you take the time to make the right decision. We are here to help you do so and talk you through how to choose a fitting memorial option.
When the time comes to inter the ashes into a memorial or grave, some families choose to be present, while others prefer to visit once the interment has taken place.
How to purchase a cremation memorial
We offer a wide range of cremation memorials, ranging from beautiful gardens featuring a range of floral options, boulder memorials, tree memorials and water features to contemporary memorial walls. These are options are available to accommodate individuals, couples or families.
If you are unable to attend an appointment at one of our office locations, our customer care team will be able to assist you over the phone or by email.
How to arrange an interment
Once you have chosen your memorial, or if you already have a memorial of family grave where you would like the ashes to be placed, the next step is to complete the required paperwork.
If you have made an appointment to choose a memorial, we will usually do this part of the process at the same time. If you already have an existing memorial or grave you would like to use, please contact us to discuss your specific situation.
In most cases we will need the permission of two parties in order to complete an interment:
The person who authorised the cremation (Applicant for Cremation Authorisation)
The person who owns the memorial position (Right of Interment holder)
In many cases these will be the same person, but sometimes they will be different people. Every situation is unique, and we are here to help.
Once the interment has been authorised, you can also arrange a plaque. The interment usually takes place once the plaque has been completed. You can let us know at this point whether you want to be there when the ashes are placed in the memorial, or whether you'd like us to inter the ashes and place the plaque on your behalf. If you would like to be present at the time of the interment, we will schedule a time that suits you.
Please note: if the cremation took place at a non-GMCT crematorium, we will need to sight a cremation certificate from the crematorium, and complete some additional paperwork. Please contact us for further information.
