Update 2  Monday, 27 May, 2013

Positive discussions were held last week between the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) and the Australian Services Union (ASU) regarding the Protected Industrial Action from 15 May 2013. Further discussions are being held today. If an agreement cannot be reached this week, the ASU have advised that their members plan to take further Industrial Action commencing on Thursday 30th May.

The GMCT regrets any inconvenience to the public.

During protected industrial action the health, safety and service of the public, funeral directors and our staff will be our priority.

The Industrial Action will comprise of:

• Selective periodic bans on burials;

• Selective periods of stop work.

The number of burials that can be undertaken by contractors and Management will be limited. While the GMCT has contingency arrangements in place to minimise the impact on business operations, some disruptions due to the industrial action are unavoidable.The offices will continue to be operated by Management.

Updates on the Industrial Action will be regularly posted on the GMCT's website, www.gmct.com.au.
