  • Cemetery: Coburg Pine Ridge Cemetery
The discovery of an un-marked grave for police hero David McGrath is one of many significant Victorian's found buried in Coburg Cemetery. Chair of The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust's Community Advisory Committee, Jan Penney says "Recently we discovered the headstone for Isaac Mattson at Coburg Cemetery. Mattson was a pioneer of the Eureka Stockade and best friend of Peter Lalor, the leader of the rebels and later a member of parliament" The Trust is currently working with the Coburg Cemetery Friends Group to establish a signposted heritage walk for the cemetery. McGrath and Mattson are just two of the many fascinating stories that will be told. The walk will also include the amazing stories of prominent Labor politicians and some of the key founders of the trade union movement. "In Coburg there is a rich tradition of working class heroes. This heritage walk is a chance for us to remember those people who helped shape our lives," said Ms Penney.
