The tearooms at Fawkner Memorial Park are an important heritage site. To ensure the longevity and amenity of the building – along with retaining and protecting its heritage – GMCT is undertaking a series of maintenance and refurbishment works.

During these works, we are addressing termite damage to the original wall panelling and rising damp through the structure – as well as conducting minor cosmetic touch-ups. Most significantly, as part of the refurbishment works, the tearooms will receive a new floor structure that will ensure the ongoing integrity of the function spaces.

Due to the historic nature of the tearooms, we are taking all necessary steps to retain the character of the building and comply with Heritage Victoria requirements. Although taking these steps has resulted in a longer planning process, we hope to see the tearooms available to the public by July 2017. In the meantime, food and beverage can be purchased from the Commemoration Centre on Victoria Boulevard, Northern Memorial Park – approximately 6 minutes’ drive or 2km away.

The public toilets to the south of the tearooms are also undergoing maintenance and refurbishment and are due to be completed by the end of April 2017. These toilets are currently unavailable. Alternative toilets are located adjacent to the gatehouse in front of the Fawkner Memorial Park reception entrance.

We thank you for your patience during these refurbishments and look forward to welcoming you back to the tearooms shortly.
