  • Cemetery: Fawkner Memorial Park

GMCT has been hard at work planting new trees, shrubs and grasses at Fawkner Memorial Park to rehabilitate Campbellfield Creek in partnership with Melbourne Water.

Our dedicated horticulture staff have already planted a total of 20 trees, 115 shrubs and 1300 grasses along the creek bed in the area near Box Forest Road, Glenroy.

Melbourne Water provided funding for the creek rehabilitation project through its Stream Frontage Management Program, which includes the purchase of over 2000 indigenous seedlings.

More greenery will be planted in coming weeks, in what will become a peaceful, natural environment for our cemetery visitors to appreciate.

Rehabilitation will improve the health of the creek environment, fostering biodiversity and creating a better habitat for wildlife, including native birds.

It is hoped that this project will also lead to future partnership opportunities between Melbourne Water and GMCT, resulting in further improvements to this site and to other locations around and within our cemeteries.
