A blue gum tree at Williamstown Cemetery is in decline and will be removed.

The tree, which is located to the west of the main entrance on the boundary with Champion road, currently poses a potential health and safety risk to staff and the public.

Before GMCT can engage a contractor to remove the tree, the canopy must be cleared from high voltage lines. Pruning of the canopy will take place on Thursday 16 June 2016.

Following pruning works, the tree will be removed. This is anticipated to take place in the next few weeks.

GMCT will advise when it is scheduled for removal.

Future planting will occur in accordance with the heritage values of the cemetery.
