GMCT wishes to advise visitors to Preston Cemetery and members of the public that strong winds during the weekend of 30 January resulted in damage to portions of Preston Cemetery at 900 Plenty Road, Bundoora.

Some monuments, roadways and pathways were damaged by falling tree branches and the overturning of a large metal skip that had been placed on site as part of an earlier clean up project. GMCT has been quick to respond and has already carried out a site assessment. Some damage has been rectified by staff.

Contractors will be on site over the coming days to further assess the situation and work with GMCT to ensure the affected areas of Preston Cemetery are returned to their normal state as soon as possible, including public access to those areas.

While this work takes place members of the public are advised to exercise caution when moving about the grounds at Preston Cemetery. GMCT strongly advises all members of the public NOT to attempt removal of branches or rectification of any other damage.

Right of Interment holders who have concerns about graves that may have been affected as a result of the storm damage are asked to contact Preston Cemetery on 1300 022 298 or preston@gmct.com.au

GMCT will provide further community updates as we work as quickly as possible to resolve this issue, ensuring the safety of staff and members of the public. Please revisit this page to stay up to date.
