The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Doery as Trust Chair.  Michael will take up the appointment on 1 November 2019.


Michael has a strong sense and culture of community service involvement for over 25 years including the educational sector, provision of assistance to the homeless and socially disadvantaged, surf lifesaving, alcohol and other drug harm prevention and work with indigenous communities.


We would like to acknowledge the contribution of outgoing Chair, Geoff Mabbett to GMCT and the cemetery sector of Victoria.  Geoff commenced as trust member in 2013 and has served as Trust Chair since 2016. Geoff did not seek a further term. A farewell celebration will be arranged in recognition of Geoff’s service in October.


 Michael brings a strong set of skills to the role having had a successful business career which has included CEO and Executive Director roles with listed, public and private companies. As a long-term senior partner at KPMG, Michael developed extensive skills in governance, finance, technology and risk management. Most recently, Michael’s career has focussed on digital and technology.


Michael is a Non- Executive director and his chair roles include Freehold Property Investment Limited and the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.


Michael has a passion for supporting and developing people and believes in the importance of building strong teams. In addition to Michael’s corporate roles, he is a CEO Circle Chair providing support and mentoring to senior executives.


Michael is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
