GMCT’s ability to realise our vision – to provide lasting memories and peaceful places to remember our loved ones – is dependent on how we respond to the current and future needs of the communities we serve.

The new community section on GMCT’s website has been developed to keep you informed on upcoming consultation opportunities, major projects, partner organisations and events.

GMCT’s approach to community engagement is underpinned by our values: compassion, respect, sustainability and integrity.

We know that you want timely, easily understood information about our services, plans and decisions.

We also understand that it is important for you to have the opportunity to provide feedback and input into decision-making –whether you’re someone who has entrusted us with the care of a loved one’s resting place in perpetuity, an interested member of the community, or a local resident.

Read on to find out about some of GMCT’s current initiatives to strengthen community connections.

Our Community Engagement Manual

At GMCT, we believe that by keeping people informed and providing opportunities for them to contribute to decision-making, we’ll be better positioned to serve the community – directly and indirectly, long into the future.

The GMCT Community Engagement Manual empowers our staff to further develop their skills in community engagement, ensuring productive and positive interaction with our communities.

Public participation and community engagement is an expectation of all public sector organisations and our manual references established guidelines from the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO).

You can view the GMCT community engagement manual here. We will continue to develop the manual based on community feedback.

Consulting with community representatives

GMCT’s community advisory committee (CAC) ensures we can provide inclusive and respectful cemeteries and services for all. The committee, comprised of GMCT trust members and community representatives, promotes open discussion and consultation between GMCT and a diverse range of cultural, religious and community groups.

The CAC is also involved in the development of our community engagement projects and activities, which are designed to support thoughtful conversations on our service offerings and on broader issues around death and dying.

If you would like to be part of the community advisory committee, including expressing your interest to become a member, you can read more and download the application form here.

Supporting our friends groups

Volunteers are the heart of GMCT community.

Whether through research, working bees or hosting special events, our friends groups actively work to preserve our cemeteries and make them peaceful, rich and sustainable places for all to embrace.

We are thankful to all who continually make significant contributions towards our cemeteries.

Contact one of the organisations listed here if you want to help, or email corpcomms@gmct.com.au if you have any enquiries about our valued supporters or want to recommend a group.
