GMCT recognises the responsibility we have to all visitors entering our cemeteries during the summer months when there is a heightened risk of bushfires.

While any GMCT cemetery may be affected by a bushfire, Andersons Creek and Emerald Cemeteries have been identified by the CFA as being at particular risk due to their locality and surrounding environment.  Both of these cemeteries have a bushfire plan in place.

Fire procedures

The CFA Fire Danger Rating assesses how dangerous a fire would be if it started on a particular day.

Code Red/Extreme

On any day declared by the CFA as being Code Red or Extreme, all GMCT cemeteries within the affected region will be CLOSED to all visitors.

All services will be postponed until such time as conditions in the area are declared safe.

Severe

On any day declared by the CFA as being Severe, GMCT cemeteries within the affected area will remain open, but will be subject to close monitoring throughout the day.

If conditions change or if the CFA issues a ‘Watch and Act’ or ‘Emergency Warning’ notice, GMCT cemeteries in that area will be immediately evacuated and closed.

All services will be postponed until such time as conditions in the area are declared safe.

Low-Moderate, High or Very High

GMCT cemeteries will be open for normal operations unless weather conditions change and the risk levels increase.

GMCT will endeavour to provide as much notice as possible before making the decision to close a cemetery. Where this does occur, we will assist to provide alternative options where appropriate.
