GMCT's friends groups and volunteers are making significant contributions towards our cemeteries and are offering their time, talents and expertise in many areas.

Friends of the Garden of Angels

This community group remembers very special children who are no longer with us, including those interred at the Garden of Angels at Fawkner Memorial Park. The group hosts Carols in the Garden of Angels, a popular family Christmas event.

Friends With Angels

This community group celebrates and remembers loved ones interred in the La Trobe section at Northern Memorial Park. The group hosts working bees, memorial services and other special events throughout the year.

Friends of Coburg Cemetery

Friends of Coburg Cemetery is a group focused on the preservation, conservation and appreciation of Coburg Cemetery. The group holds regular events and working bees and aims to protect and preserve the cemetery and its rich history.

Friends of Williamstown Cemetery

Friends of Williamstown Cemetery is a newly-established group of volunteers who work to research, protect, conserve and build appreciation of the cultural and historical significance of Williamstown Cemetery. The group recently joined a working bee hosted by GMCT and helped prepare cemetery records for digitisation.

Friends and Carers of the Emerald Section

This group of garden and heritage enthusiasts from Melbourne's eastern suburbs assists with the upkeep of Emerald Cemetery and partners with local councils and community groups.

Yarra Valley Italian Cultural Group

Members of the Italian community in the Yarra Valley organise regular social outings, including visits to GMCT cemeteries in the area.

Historical societies

Many local historical societies organise events and projects involving our cemeteries.

Keilor Historical Society

In partnership with GMCT, Keilor Historical Society hosts the annual Harrick’s Cottage Open Day near Keilor Cemetery. Established in 1988, the aim of the society is to promote the history of the Keilor region. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month.

Lilydale and District Historical Society is a community group working to foster historical interest and knowledge in Lilydale and surrounding areas.

The purpose of the Healesville and District Historical Society is to encourage and facilitate the study of the history of Healesville and district. The group meets monthly and hosts walking tours of Healesville Cemetery.
