One of GMCT's key objectives is to deliver effective and environmentally sustainable management of landscapes, resources and assets.
The proper use of natural resources is vitally important for the cemetery and crematoria industry and it is essential that our operations have a minimal impact on the natural environment. The implementation of environmental initiatives over the life of the 2013-16 Strategic Plan continues to strengthen our commitment to reducing energy and water consumption, enhance our material recycling, and provide effective carbon management initiatives.

Award for effective water conservation
Yarra Valley Water presented the GMCT with an award for producing a completed waterMAP for Fawkner Memorial Park. The waterMAP is a key first step in effective water conservation.
Improving green credentials
As part of a commitment to reducing its impact on the environment, in 2014-15 GMCT reviewed its water use and explored alternatives for irrigation and grounds maintenance. The social, environmental and economic viability of alternatives was considered.
Effectively maintaining natural assets
As part of a program to manage natural assets, a comprehensive tree audit was undertaken across all GMCT sites in 2014-15. The resulting database outlines works required, areas of potential risk and a schedule of high and medium priority tree works.
